Introduction to Creative Writing
Tuesday Evenings, 7:00-8:30 pm Central Time, Oct. 5, 12, 19, 26, Nov. 2
Participants will learn the creative writing basics of writing poetry, short stories, and flash fiction. Participants can receive editing and online feedback from award-winning author Kevin Strauss and from class participants.
Writing a Memoir
Saturdays, 10 am-12 pm and 2 pm-4 pm, Nov. 6, 20
Participants will learn the basics of brainstorming, organizing and writing a short personal story or memoir. Participants can receive editing and online feedback from award-winning author Kevin Strauss and from class participants.
Kevin Strauss is a fiscal year 2021 recipient of a Creative Support for Individuals grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board. This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.
Award-winning Minnesota Author and Storyteller Kevin Strauss tells stories about heroes, dragons, and giants that inspire listeners to face challenges, solve problems, a smile every day.
Kevin’s most recent children’s book, Pecos Bill Invents the Ten-Gallon Hat won the Western Writer’s of America 2013 Spur Award for the best Storytelling Book. His books and CDs have won several national awards including the NAPPA Award, Parents Choice Award, Spur Award, and the Storytelling World Award.
Kevin is a rostered artist on the COMPAS Writers and Artists in the Schools and the Minnesota State Arts Board Artists in Education rosters.
Kevin’s Bully Blocker™ workshops and performances are receiving rave reviews from teachers and administrators who want to put an end to school bullying. His Story Solutions (Libraries Unlimited, 2011) and Building Heroes, Blocking Bullies (Trumpeter Press, 2010) books are available.
Kevin is based in Rochester, Minnesota, and he performs his award-winning storytelling, writing, and author visit programs in Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Iowa.
